Our volunteering programme is designed to inspire and benefit those taking part as much as they support the museum.
All our opportunities have flexible commitment requirements and aim to provide a rewarding and enriching experience for all.
Volunteers can be from all walks of life and of any age above 18 years.
We’re looking for dedicated and committed men and women to inspire our visitors with their enthusiasm, knowledge, and passion. Click Types of Volunteer for more information.
We have opportunities as Stewards to serve in the Museum during opening hours. You will assist visitors and answer their questions, so it’s a definite help if you are a confident, outgoing individual, keen to interact with visitors – young and old – and have good communication skills. It would be nice if you already have a good knowledge of Combe Down’s history, quarries and stone mines, but a commitment to learning more is much more important and we will give you relevant training. Our visitors come from all over the world and could use your help to find their way around our museum. You can be the one responding to their queries, offering information and helping them have a great time. All you have to bring is your friendly, helpful self and a willingness to learn about our displays and to be able to commit to certain dates and times.
We will soon be recruiting learning volunteers to assist with the Museum’s learning programme by helping children and young people to explore the
Museum and its collections.
Collections and archives volunteers
As we develop we will need more help with managing our collection. This will include everything from handling acquisitions, cataloguing and storage. This role would appeal to people interested in museum collections management and/or with a passion for historical artefacts. We also need help with archive materials to make them more accessible for the public. Archivists catalogue, scan, store and handle papers and images about Combe Down’s history and that of the quarries and mines.
Like all charities, The Museum of Bath Stone needs to make its case for public support. You could help us ensure the museum’s future. We need people who can speak for us, write for us and help keep in contact with supporters. Whether you’re ready to stuff envelopes, or have a Rolodex full of potential donors, we’d love to talk to you.
If any of these opportunities sound intriguing to you, please get in contact. We’d love to talk to you. Please just click on the Volunteer Contact Form below.
